At KS3 we look at a question each half term that relate to activities young people will likely have experience of, such as talking a photo with a smart phone. We start with surface knowledge of the history, software, hardware and issues relating to the activity. We then dive deeper through the layers of abstraction to uncover more and more detail of all the concepts involved. This allows us to cover all of the 2014 DfE programme of study with many topics being covered multiple times over the three years in a variety of contexts. Each term the students complete a creative project that links directly to the question being investigated. Dedicated lessons are also delivered in which students can master the key skills needed to effectively use productivity software - namely spreadsheets, presentation software and word processing.
